The students should fall in one of the following categories, to be entitled for consideration for admission to the respective faculty.

Applicants to B.Sc, B.Com and B.A Part-I should have qualified HSC examination Karachi Board or should have cleared an equivalent examination from any other board.

Applicants to the Masters programme in Economics should be qualified in B.A / B.Com / B.Sc. {with Economics} B.Sc {Mathematics or Statistics or Physics} from any recognized University.

Admissions are strictly on merit, based on their performance in Board / University examination. Clearing an aptitude test is mandatory for:

  • English Elective
  • Fine Arts
  • Mathematics

Failing which another subject will have to be chosen.

Masters in Economics

DCW-VIII is the only College in DHA which is offering a post graduate degree in Economics in affiliation with the University of Karachi. Stating this programme in 1997, we have provided several outstanding Masters degree holders to the market.

Eligibility

Students who have done their bachelors with Economics are eligible for admission to the M.A Economics programme.

Evaluation and Assessment

Concepts acquired in a classroom need to be reinforced and assessed. For this purpose we, at DCW phase-VIII regularly and vigorously evaluate our students' performance. We have established an entire system of assessment that includes:

  • Monthly Tests
  • Quizzes
  • Assignments
  • Projects
  • Presentations
  • Mid-term Examination (only for Intermediate)
  • Preliminary Examination
    • Preliminary Examinations are scheduled prior to the final examinations of Board/University.

Securing a minimum of 40% marks in tests and examinations and 75% attendance is a prerequisite for the issuance of admit card. Students need to obtain clearance from individual subject and class teachers as well as other relevant departments before they are issued the admit card.

Code of Conduct

The students attending DCW-VIII need to abide by the following rules and regulations at all times, during their stay in the College:

Uniform

The students need to wear the following as part of the uniform:

  • White shirt (Knee length with collar and 3/4 Sleeves)
  • White Shalwar
  • Plain white dupatta
  • Navy blue sweater / shawl (as winter wear)
  • Closed black shoes
  • College monogram on the shirt pocket (Right side)
  • College ID Card on faculty colour string

Note: For students' convenience all the above are available (on payment) at the College uniform shop and the ID card shall be issued by the College.

Punctuality

  • The College gates will be closed for the students at 8:00 am sharp.
  • Students are required to reach the College before 8:00 am.
  • Late arrival is not permitted and will not be excused.
  • Prompt departure from the College at 2:00pm is encouraged.

Attendance

  • Attending all scheduled classes / practical is mandatory for all students.
  • Students are not allowed to miss any class / practical for any reason.
  • At least 75% attendance is mandatory for appearing in Board/University examination, failing which examination form/admit card will with held.

Leave

  • Absence from College for personal reasons / illness should be intimated through an application.
  • Medical certificate is to be submitted promptly in case of an illness.
  • A fine of Rs 100/- per day will be charged in case of an uninformed leave.
  • One month's absence without any intimation to the College will lead to suspension from the College.
  • For the students' safety they are not allowed to leave the College except in case of an emergency. In such a case only parents can come to fetch their daughter. Parents will have to present some valid personal identification.
  • The College will remain closed on all gazetted holiday during summer / winter vacation and 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month. Announcement in this regard will be made by the College Administration.

Discipline

  • Students must wear their College identity card at all times.
  • Carrying / using cellular phone, MP3 Player and any electronic gadget is not allowed. If confiscated, these items would not be returned.
  • Students indulging in rowdyism, damaging College property, furniture and soft boards will be penalized for such misconduct.
  • Academic silence and discipline is to be observed in and around the College during lecture hours and at all times in the library.
  • Expressing disrespect by word or deed for the College, its property and its rules or disfiguring the College will be dealt with strictly.
  • Distributing undesirable printed material / books / magazines is not allowed.
  • Consistently poor academic performance will lead to a student's expulsion.
  • Endangering the safety of others, dishonoring self / others will be strictly penalized.
  • The College reserves the right to amend and revise its rules and regulations as and when it deems appropriate.
  • The College management reserves the right to expel any student found contravening any of these rules and regulations.

Note: Students and their parents / guardians are advised to acquaint themselves with this code of conduct for compliance.

Instructions for Parents

  • Parents must attend the parent-teacher meetings.
  • Prior appointments should be sought before visiting the College.
  • In case desiring an unscheduled meeting, the parents are requested to patiently await their turn.
  • Parents are discouraged from requesting an early leave for their daughter.
