Karachi, Jan 24: An Intercollegiate Bilingual Declamation Contest was held at Defence Authority Degree College for Boys and Girls. A large number of reputed educational institutions of the metropolis took part in the contest, which is an annual feature of the College's co-curricular activities. Celebrated script writer and columnist Ms Haseena Moin was the chief guest of the event.
Ms Haseena Moin said that the young generation has lot of potential and constitutes hope and optimism for the country's bright future. She appreciated the high standard and decorum of the declamation contest. She advised the students to have full knowledge of the subject on which they speak and to present their ideas logically, innovatively and convincingly to be a good speaker.
The young speakers spoke on various serious and humorous topics displaying their brilliance, talent and eloquence. The audience appreciated the imaginative techniques, innovative skills and debating prowess of the speakers displayed in their English and Urdu speeches.
Principal Prof Syed Siraj Munir said that the college organizes debates, declamations and discussions which provide the students an effective forum for enlightenment of their mind and development of their leadership skills.
In English Declamation Bareera Goveria from DA College for Women clinched the first position, Syed Hammad Mukhtar of Agha Khan Higher Secondary School (Morning) was declared second and Esha Afridi from Agha Khan Higher Secondary School (Evening) won the third position.
In Urdu Declamation Zamad Shahab Agha Khan from Agha Khan Higher Secondary School (Morning) got the first position, Dania Hassan from DA College for Women was adjudged second while Abdullah Shakir from Bahria College NORE-I stood third. The coveted trophy was won by Defence Authority College for Women.
In the end the chief guest distributed certificates and shields among the participants of the declamation contest.
