Iqbal Day Function - DA Degree College

Karachi, Nov 10: A function to commemorate the 133rd birth anniversary of our national poet, Allama Mohd  Iqbal  was  held  at  Defence  Authority  Degree  College  jointly  under  the  aegis  of  DHA  and Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman Memorial Society on Tuesday.

Barrister Shahida Jamil, ex federal law minister was the chief guest of the function. Speaking on the occasion she said that Iqbal was a great visionary poet philosopher who wanted to bring an intellectual revolution in the youth through revival of the spirit of renaissance. She said that Iqbal advocated perpetual struggle for advancement as an ultimate goal for success. She reiterated that Iqbal articulated perception of a separate muslim domain in the sub continent and wanted a modern, enlightened and progressive muslim welfare state emerging in the comity of nations.

Barrister Shahida Jamil lamented that Pakistan today was not what Iqbal had envisioned or desired to be adding that it required intellectual honesty and objectivity to understand the philosophical poet in its true perspective. She said that ironically the real personality and philosophy of Iqbal has historically been distorted by restricting him in a narrow bigotry framework.

Mr Obaidullah Baig in his keynote address emphasized on the value of Iqbal’s idea of self discovery and the importance of self reliance for development of youth. He said Iqbal was regarded poet of the east as he represented the real spirit and values of the east which resonated in his philosophical poetry. He said that Iqbal’s idea of a nation and nationalism transcends all racial and geographical boundaries and draws strength from religion.

Brig (R) Iftikhar Arshad Khan, Director Education DHA emphasized the need to revive the message and philosophy of Iqbal among the youth for development of their character and personality. He said that DHA was making concerted efforts in this regard and that the function was part of the fifteen day long extra curricular activities being held in DHA educational institutions.

Mr Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, Secretary Youth Affairs, Govt of Sindh in his speech endorsed the need to make our youth conscious of their importance, resourcefulness and responsibilities to shoulder the future leadership of Pakistan.

Mr Naiz Ahmed Siddiqui, former I.G Police Sindh in his discourse said that in the present times of crisis, Iqbal’s dynamic philosophy was a beacon of light for the guidance of nation. He said that the philosophical poet explored new avenues for struggle and gave a reinvigorated message of hope and faith to the youth.

He said that Iqbal profoundly studied western philosophy and borrowed some concepts from Nietzsche and Hegal whose orign he traced to the teachings of Islam.

Commodore (R) Imran Ansari, Principal DA Degree College in his welcome address stated that Iqbal’s concept of ego and self is central to development of a personality that repose complete trust in Allah.

At the end the students who excelled in various co-curricular activities were awarded prizes.
